Our SEO Score reflects how well your video aligns with recommended best practices. It highlights what you've already completed and what steps you still need to take to help YouTube accurately understand and promote your video to the right audience. Please note, the SEO Score is separate from the Keyword Score; it's calculated based on the following criteria:
- Include your target keyword in the title.
- Include 80% of your target keyword in the title.
- Include your target keyword in the first 60 characters of the title.
- Include your target keyword naturally in the title.
- Include your target keyword in the first 200 characters of the description.
- Include partial matches of your target keyword in the description.
- Include your exact target keyword as the first tag.
- Adding more relevant tags.
Step 1: Title and Description - Include your target keyword in both your title and description. As you apply the recommendations listed under "Improve Your Score," you'll see your overall score increase.

Step 2: Tags - Import tags from your saved tag lists, type in new tags, or add suggested ones from the box at the bottom. Tags help YouTube better understand your video's content, which can improve its discoverability in search and suggested videos.

Step 3: Thumbnail - Compare your thumbnail with videos that use similar keywords and tags to yours. You can upload a new thumbnail or create one with our Thumbnail Generator tool. This step does not affect the SEO score.

Step 4: Apply to Video - Apply your changes to the video or save it for later use.
